Idea Generator - a Humor Writing Workshop with Jiji Lee
Coming up with ideas for a humor piece is like throwing spaghetti at a wall. But this workshop will be a lot more fun and only a little less messy!
What to expect in this two-hour workshop:
Through in-class writing exercises, you will generate ideas for humor pieces that you can submit to places like McSweeney’s and The New Yorker’sShouts and Murmurs.
Workshop an idea in class and receive peer and instructor feedback on how to sharpen your angle, along with pitches for jokes and beats.
I’ll also use one of my humor pieces as a “case study” to show you how I developed the piece from initial observation to published piece.
Sunday, November 2, 2PM EST on Zoom
About the instructor: JiJi Lee has been contributing humor to The New Yorker since 2017. She’s also written for McSweeney’s, The Onion, The New York Times, and The Washington Post. Her work was included in The New Yorker’s roundup of their most popular pieces and in the humor anthology Keep Scrolling Till You Feel Something: Twenty-One Years of Humor From McSweeney's Internet Tendency.
